A popular book series is being adapted into a film starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis.

According to Deadline, the two A-listers will be featured in a forthcoming Prime Video series based on Patricia Cornwell’s wildly successful Kay Scarpetta novels.

There have been rumors that Kidman will play the role of Scarpetta, a forensic doctor turned crime fighter. To portray Dorothy, her sister, Curtis has been cast.

Cornwell posted a link to the story with the caption “Scarpetta buddies, we’ve waited 33 years for this” on Instagram on February 8.

Both Kidman and Curtis, according to Deadline’s story, will serve as executive producers on the show, which has already been given a two-season, eight-episode order. Showrunner duties will go to Liz Sarnoff, who is recognized for her roles in Barry and Lost.

Postmortem, the first book in the Kay Scarpetta series, was published in 1990. There have been a total of 26 volumes published in the series since then, with the most recent being “Livid,” due out in the year 2022. Global sales of the series’ books have topped 100 million.

Curtis, who has been nominated for her first Oscar for her role in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, purchased the rights to the Kay Scarpetta books in June of 2021.

At the time, Curtis told Deadline, “collaborating with her to bring her beloved character Kay Scarpetta to life through the power of television and to introduce her to an altogether new audience is fascinating.”

This will be Curtis’s first series regular role since she portrayed Cathy Munsch on Fox’s Scream Queens in 2015 and 2016.

The Oscar-winning Kidman has lately found a home on the tiny screen, appearing in HBO’s The Undoing in 2020, Nine Perfect Strangers on Hulu in 2021, and Roar on Apple TV+ in 2022.
