The cast of the 2016 live-action version of Moana, starring Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho, was just announced. Johnson said that there is “much more to come.”

Our love for this movie could take us anywhere.

Walt Disney Studios announced on April 3 that the 2016 animated movie Moana would be remade as a live-action movie. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not only be in charge of making the movie, but he will also play Maui again.

Deadline says that Auli’i Cravalho, who was the first person to speak Moana, will return to the island of Motunui as the new executive director.

Johnson has a special tie to this project because his late grandfather, Peter Maivia, was the model for Maui.

Johnson wrote on Instagram on April 3 that “this story is my culture” and that “this story shows our people’s grace, mana, and warrior strength.” This once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet with MAUI, which came about because of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is very important to me.

Johnson promised that “the realm of music and dance, which is at the heart of who we are as Polynesians,” would be a big part of the live-action version, even though “much more” was still to come.

In the 2016 movie, Moana, the daughter of a village chief, goes on a dangerous ocean trip with Maui.

Even though it hasn’t been officially revealed, Moana actress Auli’i Cravalho has written about how excited she is for the future movie, saying that it has been “whispered about for years!”

On April 3, she talked about how Moana changed the way she thought about Disney heroes on Instagram. “Everyone who helped bring Moana to life, as well as people all over the world who watch the movie, has been moved by Moana’s bravery and drive. I can’t wait to tell her story in a new way.
