Holden, who is eighteen, and Leland, who is sixteen, are two closest friends of Brendan’s. To express how much they cherish and adore him, they want to attend the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony.
They invited Brendan’s girlfriend Jeanne Moore to the Oscars with them to celebrate their father’s first nomination, even though the adolescents are typically somewhat reserved. Leland remarked that the family was “extremely delighted” for their dad, while Holden gushed to Laverne about how “over the moon” he and his brother were.

Brendan has discussed how his time spent filming The Whale is relevant to his Oscar nomination.
He told Laverne on the red carpet that he was leaving Hollywood after a successful period in the late 1990s and early 2000s because his new movie, “The Whale,” is about putting wrongs to rights. “I’d be lying if I claimed I didn’t see your point of view. My mind immediately goes to this fictitious character anytime I hear this term. You are not alone if, after watching the video, you identify with the issues he discusses.”
Brendan continued by saying that many more people have reached out to the Obesity Action Coalition for assistance after watching the film. “Voices are being amplified and heard by a growing population. That’s helpful, at least in a roundabout sense, in my opinion.”
