This time, Shakira’s pleas to be left alone are real.
After her split from Gerard Piqué, the singer, who is now 46, moved to Miami with their two children, Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8. In a message, she asked that the family be left alone.
As a public figure who is changing, it makes sense that the press is always interested in me and my family. On April 10, Shakira sent a tweet. But the last year has been especially hard for my kids Milan and Sasha because the press and other media agencies in Barcelona have been following and bothering them all the time.
The “Hips Don’t Like” singer has given her children strict rules to help them live “normal” lives.
Shakira’s message went on to say that the couple should be left alone now that they are starting a new life.
She asked the press, “Please don’t follow them to the entrance and exit of their school, wait for them at the door of our house, or follow them to their extracurricular and recreational activities, like they did in Barcelona to get photos or boost ratings.”
When asked what her boys want most, the author of “Whenever, Wherever” said, “To feel safe and calm in public and at school.”
Shakira said she hoped the media here would be sensitive to Milan and Sasha’s situation. She said, “I trust that the reporters and photographers here will know what Milan and Sasha are going through and will treat them with the most kindness possible, keeping in mind that this is about the physical and emotional health and safety of two kids who are only 8 and 10 years old.”
Shakira ended her statement by saying that she wasn’t talking to the media as an artist, but as a mother who “wants to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of my children so that they can live a happy and healthy life, as all children deserve to do.”
